What is an automation career at AI Automated Solutions?

An automation career at AI Automated Solutions is an engineering job building production AI systems that replace manual work: WhatsApp-first assistants, AI callers, agentic workflows, CRM automation and custom AI applications for South African companies. The work ships to real teams with real users, not to a demo folder.

We are an indigenous AI firm operating from Cape Town with global engineering standards: disciplined architecture, fast iteration, telemetry that gets read, and clean human-AI handovers. An automation career here means production-first thinking, because the constraints are real, the users are real and the reliability bar is real. If it does not work in production, it does not ship. We have built systems this way for 35+ companies over 3+ years, with 340+ solutions built, so new engineers join a pattern library rather than a blank page. Companies come to us for leverage, not experimentation, and we hire for the same thing.

Which automation roles are we hiring for?

Automation roles at AI Automated Solutions run across six openings: AI Automation Engineer, WhatsApp Systems Specialist, AI Caller Systems Architect, CRM Workflow Engineer, AI Prompt Engineer, and Junior AI Developer on an internship and graduate track.

The automation engineer connects WhatsApp, CRMs, tools and AI decision logic into reliable workflows, then monitors, debugs and hardens them. The WhatsApp specialist designs conversational journeys that qualify leads, capture structured data, route correctly and escalate intelligently, with templates, opt-in handling and compliance patterns built in. The caller architect designs call flows, routing and escalation, and implements transcription to reasoning to action loops with guardrails and logging. The CRM engineer builds pipelines, triggers, assignment logic, shared inbox workflows and SLA tracking, plus reporting that shows bottlenecks. The prompt engineer builds tool routing, structured outputs, safety rules and evaluation. The junior track ships modules under mentorship.

What does the work look like day to day?

Day to day, an automation career here is workflow design, integration and hardening in roughly equal measure. A morning usually starts in production logs: read the failure, reproduce the routing edge case, fix the cause, ship the fix. We fix root causes, not symptoms, and when something scales we standardise it.

An afternoon is build work. That might be an API or webhook integration, a qualification flow, an escalation rule, a shared inbox SLA, a consent and audit trail, or a dashboard that shows exactly where work is stuck. Autonomy is high and so is ownership. We do not micromanage and we do hold standards. Speed matters, and fragile systems still do not ship. Decisions get documented, guardrails get built, and the things that matter get measured: response time, conversion, pipeline movement, operational load. Your work reaches client teams in weeks rather than quarters.

What skills and tools do we hire for?

The skills behind an automation career here are systems thinking, integration ability and reliability discipline. We look for Python or JavaScript and TypeScript fundamentals, strong API and webhook integration experience, workflow and state-machine thinking, and a genuine habit of logging, error handling and testing.

The stack is the one our client work runs on. Workflows are assembled in n8n or Make.com, language and reasoning come from OpenAI, Anthropic Claude or Google Gemini, messaging runs over WhatsApp Business Cloud API or Twilio, records live in HubSpot or GoHighLevel, data lands in Supabase or PostgreSQL, and everything sits behind Cloudflare. Meta Business verification, WABA setup, voice AI platforms, multi-agent tool loops and evaluation harnesses are useful extras rather than gates. Candidates thrive here when they translate business reality into automation logic and care about handovers and audit trails. Candidates struggle when discussion outranks delivery.

How does the hiring process work?

The hiring process for an automation career here is four structured steps designed for signal instead of noise. Step one is the application: a CV, a portfolio or GitHub link, and a short note on what you shipped and why this work interests you.

Step two is a technical assessment built from a real systems task rather than a puzzle, judged on clarity, correctness and clean thinking. Step three is a systems thinking interview covering how you design workflows, handle edge cases, choose failure modes and prioritise under pressure. Step four is a final alignment call on expectations, standards, role fit and growth trajectory. We hire for capability, ownership and systems thinking, in that order. The role descriptions are deliberately direct so nobody arrives surprised. Graduates and students run the same process for the junior track, scaled to what a graduate can reasonably have shipped so far.

How do you apply for an automation career with us?

Applying for an automation career takes one message. Send the role name, your location and timezone, links to GitHub or a portfolio, and two or three examples of systems you have shipped and what those systems do in production.

Students and graduates apply the same way for the junior track. That track is hands-on work on live projects and internal tools under mentorship, not shadowing: integrations, workflow components, testing, deployment patterns, and exposure to WhatsApp AI, voice AI, CRM workflows and automation infrastructure. We mentor, and we expect commitment in return. Top performers grow quickly here. We are Cape Town based and remote-first, so output and clear communication matter more than a seat. If comfortable work with low accountability is the goal, this is the wrong place. If building intelligent systems that replace manual work is the goal, send the message and we will reply with an honest read on fit.
